Always in search for beautiful tableware with the aim of being the best host I searched online for shops before going to London. This time, I invite you to come with me to the beautiful shop and café AIDA in Shoreditch, London.
THE STORE – IT’S A FAMILY THING
AIDA opened its doors in April 2012 as a result of four sisters’ vision to create a store that offered something more than the average high street shopping experience. Named affectionately after their Nan, AIDA was built around family, community and connection, and these values remain at the heart of everything they do.
The shop floor was designed not only to showcase a unique edit of independent brands, but also to be a platform from which other people could share their passions and talents. Playing host to a range of charitable events and collaborations, the sisters’ aim is to continue exploring ways of celebrating people and style through meaningful outlets.
For the entrepreneurs, AIDA has always been about the experience – inviting you to share their inspiration and ideals. They take time to source brands that share their passion, from the clothing to the coffee to the community projects they develop. Each one is chosen for their effortless style, quality materials and strong philosophy. Their aim is to make AIDA a space for everyone to feel welcome. To connect, discover and inspire.
The store itself sits in the heart of cosmopolitan East London and offers a range of menswear, womenswear, homewares, shoes and accessories ‐ but that’s not all…
AIDA has its own coffee shop at the front of the store, a place for people to meet, relax and slow down a little. The cafe is now an integral part of the AIDA community, keeping in line with their vision to provide something different to the norm.
Take a seat at the long wooden tables, sip a signature flat white and watch the colours of Shoreditch High Street roll by through the floor to ceiling windows. Choose from classic coffee options, fresh smoothies, juices and their speciality lattes: Matcha, Turmeric, Chai and the infamous Rose, along with a selection of home baked treats. And don’t forget to take your time. Read a paper, chat with the AIDA team, log on to the free wifi or shop from your seat.
When you walk into the store you can see: they love interiors. Their statement: ‘The right environment, whether for work or living, reflects back on you. Inspiration, relaxation, comfort or creativity: set your mind state with your surroundings.’
They curated the AIDA Home collection to translate not just the look and feel of the store, but also the ethos behind it: ethical products, local designers, skilled craftsmen, worldwide connections.
I took a piece of AIDA Home to my home ;). I love their current collection. You can also read my blog post Favorite Tableware Brands, including chosen brands from AIDA store.
ESPECIALLY FOR YOU…
They’re sharing the ingredients their baristas use for each of the lattes so you can create your own at home (PS it’s not as complicated as you might think!).
